fourteen

A few weeks ago, a group of us from church took our Sunday school to the North End Stella Mission here in Winnipeg. We had our Sunday service with them, and as part of the service, a sage smudge was lit.

The Native tradition of calling God “Creator” was something that resonated with me. As did the meaning behind the use of sweet grass; it is the tallest grass, and points up to heaven. And even if it is stepped on, it will spring back up. The symbolism of the grass reminded me of the bible verse “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Phil. 4:13)

Reaching up and reaching out.
